Markus Kayser is a German designer and the founder of Kayser Works. Kayser’s research and work spans widely across disciplines ranging from studying swarm behavior in insects to designing robotics or using the Sun’s rays to 3D print glass objects from raw desert sand.
His work challenges rigid design and fabrication conceptions by deploying raw energy and materials, biological systems, and novel technology to develop new forms of making, thereby creating a new suite of tools for design itself. His work is part of the permanent design collection at the Museum of Modern Art New York (MoMA) and has been exhibited world-wide in renowned museums.
Kayser holds a PhD from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Media Lab, where he conducted research in The Mediated Matter Group. Prior, Kayser received his Master of Arts and Design from the Royal College of Art in London, UK and a Bachelor’s degree in Furniture and Product Design from the London Metropolitan University, UK.
