Atkar was founded in 1946 and employs 40 staff members in their Hallam, Victoria headquarters. Originally a construction material supplier, Atkar has expanded to include an architectural division which supplies modular acoustic panelling while working alongside industry leading contracting and construction firms. The marriage of the Architectural design and custom manufacturing has allowed Atkar to offer flexible, custom acoustic solutions to their clients. Incorporating attractive and functional acoustic solutions, while surpassing customer expectations has always been Atkar's focus. Atkar partnered with the Architectural Firm, ARM on the Geelong Library & Heritage Centre in 2015. Since the project’s unveiling, it has garnered praise from the public as well as the broader industry. The Geelong Library & Heritage Centre received the Victorian Architecture Medal, the William Wardell Award for Public Architecture and the Marion Mahoney Award in 2016.
