Joel Matladi is a young animator and illustrator born in Limpopo, South Africa. He operates as a digital artist under the pseudonym Cyzo. Passionate about telling stories, Matladi aims to reconstruct the African visual narrative to counter negative depictions in Western media.
Matladi draws inspiration from various African cultures, pop culture trends as well as the subject of feminism. He believes telling the stories of women and the African experience is the way forward. Illustrating his views, Matladi completed a series of high-concept digital paintings called Black Snow in 2016.
Standard
