Lindi Ndebele Koka is a well-known government official who joined the Department of Arts and Culture after working in advertising and marketing. She has gained credit for her pivotal role in the development of the South African film industry since 1996 to what it is today: in particular for her role in the Interim Film Fund that led to the establishment of the National Film and Video Foundation and many other strategic industry initiatives.
Her contribution for the negotiation and signing of film coproduction treaties and film content strategy that led to the establishment of the Department of Trade and Industry Film Incentives was paramount. Currently she is responsible for the cultural and creative industries that includes: film, design, visual arts, craft, performing arts, literature and the implementation of the Mzansi Golden Economy strategy amongst others.
Recently, she has led the nationwide cultural programming of the inaugural Africa Month in May 2015. Within design, she has established strategic partnerships of various programmes including the Fashion Fushion Program with the SAFW, the Design Indaba Emerging Creatives programme and the DAC Design Incubator program with the SABS Design Institute.
Lindi Ndebele Koka grew up in Orlando East Soweto, holds a BA Honors in Dramatic Arts from the University of the Witwatersrand majoring in Film. Diploma in Journalism, Certificate in Marketing Management and other qualifications.
Ndebele Koka is a nominator for the 2016 Most Beautiful Object in South Africa award.
